January 10 - 17, 2011

Last week saw shelves installed and most of the doors being put on - we're so close I can almost taste it :) Saturday Tom and I moved some of our dishes out of the dining room and into cupboards, something I really enjoyed doing but it was somewhat difficult as we couldn't choose any cupboard to use as not all have fronts on and they don't have handles on so nothing in the island could be used.
Door handles are picked and hopefully they'll come today. I believe everything is supposed to be wrapped up in a couple of days expect the electrical - we haven't heard when the electrician is coming to install the lights and hood.
Tom keeps telling me he can't wait until it's finished, it's funny but you start to forget what normal is. Hoping normal is good :)

January 4 - 10

Kitchen work started again on January 4 after a break of almost two weeks - weeks that we waited with anticipation of the kitchen we would have in January.
Tom and I have felt like hoarders a lot of the time as we lived in the dining room along with all our dishes and some kitchen supplies spread over the table where we were trying to eat :)
I think things started out quite manageable but as time went on I started to feel a little out of control with keeping things orderly.
We learned to eat simply, reheating spaghetti and sauce on the bbq - that became Tom's speciality. I think we also learned the importance of communication during this time as well - communication with our designer. Still learning this one :)
And we're hoping for our kitchen by the end of this week. I'll take lots of pictures and hopefully will be able to skype you around our new kitchen.

January 4, 2011

Today my kitchen arrived!
With much anticipation I watched bits and pieces of cupboards come in anxious to see how they all fit together and what they'd look like.
The island was like a gig saw puzzle, all fitting together but not making much sense to me until it was all together.
The arrival of the granite always causes excitement - how will they get it in the house? How will they get it on top of the island? And so even though we were supposed to have left the house already we had to stay to watch the process. I tried to snap lots of pictures and indeed the guys didn't disappoint us with their display of how they do things.
